Semaphore
Including Glanville, Largs Bay, Peterhead
Semaphore is a coastal suburb north west of the Adelaide CBD. It is part of the LeFevre Peninsula, and is primarily a residential location. The proximity to the beach however makes popular for tourists with markets, restaurants, and activities in the area.
The area was surveyed in 1849, and was essentially a swampy area, however a hotel was established “The Semaphore”, and post office soon after. The suburb played an integral role in maritime monitoring such as tides, and weather conditions as one of the states first weather stations was established in the area.
Adjacent suburbs include ,Birkenhead, Ethelton, Exeter and Semaphore Park.
