Blackwood
Including Eden Hills, Belair, Glenalta
Blackwood is located in the foothills of the Adelaide suburbs and is quite a popular suburb for small lifestyle properties and outer suburban living. It’s relatively close to the CBD of Adelaide, and many people live in Blackwood and work in the city of Adelaide.
It is believed Blackwood was founded around 1880, and the name was derived from a small hotel where Hotel Belair is now situated.
The area is reasonable well wooded, with dwellings dotted amongst tall stands of native trees and scrub. Famous people who live or grew up in the area are country singer Becky Cole, and the Australian band Hilltop Hoods. Around 6500 people currently live in the suburb.
As the suburb is close to native bush and scrub and stands of trees are dotted throughout the suburb, the area is particularly prone to possums, millipedes, and termites. Residents who have fruit and vegetable gardens have also complained of bird related problems.
