Campbelltown

Including Newton, Hectorville, Rostrevor, Tranmere

The suburb of Campbelltown was established in 1867 and is name after James Campbell. Campbell was an early aristocrat of South Australia and played a role in developing pastoral areas around Burra, and was also a close friend of the famous Charles Sturt. Sturt actually named Campbell Creek on one of his many exhibitions after Charles James Campbell.

Today the district area is home to some 40,000 + residents and also includes the surrounding suburbs of Paradise, Athelstone, Newton, Hectorville, Rostrevor, Tranmere and some parts of Magill.

The suburb and area has all the usual suspects when it comes to pests, including rodents (rate and mice) cockroaches, termites, and depending on the time of the year, nuisance possums. A resident also found a black snake in their backyard last year, showing that even though Adelaide is a large city these days, it’s rural heritage and the surrounding wildlife still thrive.
